Nato Toughens Stance On Afghani Drug Lords
Filed in archive Dangerous Places by jim on February 11, 2009
As the United States gears up for an intensified assault on terrorists in Afghanistan its allies in NATO are now unified on the rules of engagement when encountering enemy forces.

A combination of Taliban, terrorist infiltrators from other countries and drug lords with the private armies are threatening to overrun the country.

The new rules allow for the killing of people considered to be involved with the drug trade even if there is no immediate evidence of it. The heroin trade is the main source of financing for the Taliban and other terrorist factions.

"Right To Die" Issue Still Being Debated In Italy
Filed in archive Human Interest by jim on February 11, 2009
In heavily Roman Catholic Italy, the formerly unthinkable is taking place, a public discussion about the possibility of legalizing a person's "right to die."

The issue came to a head when a dispute arose over whether or not to allow Eluana Englaro, 38, who had been in a vegetative state for 17 years, to be disconnected from life support.

President Obama Talks Tough During His First Prime Time Press Conference
Filed in archive Politics by jim on February 9, 2009
Obama delivered a short introductory speech and then fielded 13 questions on a variety of topics during tonight's Presidential press conference.

The President's responses were forthright, thorough and sprinkled with both witticisms and criticisms. Some of the comments were sharply worded and directed at those whom the President feels are impediments to economic recovery.

Some of Obama's detractors claim that he is using "scare tactics" to garner votes for his plan and you can read the entire story about Obama's prime time press conference.
